The Sunken Garden
The trees and the foundations for the sunken garden are older than the present house. They were probably planted when the 18th century house Woodfield existed on the present site of Newtownbarry. The Hall-Dares added to these gardens when they built Newtownbarry. The sunken garden is 18th century with 19th century additions. It was restored in 2004 and changed from its original box hedge form. Features include the pond and beautiful stone grotto arches. A peaceful and picturesque place to visit, the garden opens to the public on April 30th 2005.
